Claim 3 -- Poverty and Desperation
According to Fight Slavery Now, poverty and desperation are also root causes of human trafficking ("Root Causes"). Fight Slavery Now states that "the connection between human trafficking and poverty is perhaps obvious, as a large pool of desperate people will naturally be at risk for serving as a ready supply of cheap labor." When a person is in poverty, they are willing to do whatever it takes to either put food on the table for themselves or children or family. Even if it means to do work that maybe the are not comfortable with or that is not for them for a very low wage, and that is the desperation part. People start to worry about whether they are gong to have food on the table or not for themselves and family. This then would be the part where desperation kicks in. People start to feel like they have no other choice and they have to do whatever they can do get their pay and go about their day living a happy life.
