Local Context
Although many people do not think so, Chicago is recognized as one of the top cities involved in human trafficking. "In Chicago alone an estimated minimum of 16,000 - 25,000 women and girls are victims of commercial sexual exploitation in Chicago every year" ("Chicago Dream Center"). With these statistics, we can prove that human trafficking is not an imaginary problem as people think so in Chicago. Human trafficking actually does exist and is a problem. To think globally and act locally to me, means that we must think of human trafficking as a problem in not only Chicago but also in the world. We must think of how this issue affects the whole world and come up with solutions that are possible and realistic for the local community first. Once we accomplish a local goal, then we can move it up to the national level and then to a global level. We must see what is going on in the whole world and then act in our small communities to make people informed and make them want to take small actions that will eventually lead to big actions. Organizations like the Chicago Dream Center hold meetings every Friday and try and reach out to victims of human trafficking all over Chicago. Alabaster Dreams also holds meetings every week as well to try and reach out to those that are being trafficked in strip clubs, massage parlors and hotels ("Chicago Dream Center").
