Reflection
The way I chose my fire project was a bit strange and difficult. First I picked woman's rights because it was something that I have always been passionate about. Once I tried to come up with the thesis, I knew that I had to specify my topic more, so I narrowed it down to human trafficking and how it affected women. I then realized that my thesis could be a fact and had no argument so I had to change it to how human trafficking for sex exploitation is not only an issue in the third world, but in economically developed countries as well. I spent a good 3 weeks working on this project, at least three to four hours every day. I had both good and bad experiences with this project through out the whole thing. The good is that I gained more knowledge about my topic and the bad was that I was frustrated with trying to find sources to accompany my claims When conducting this research, I gained new strategies on building websites, writing a ten page paper, how to organize the paper, and knowing how to put it all together to show the skills I have developed over the last four year at Social Justice. To manage my time, I would set a certain time to be "Fire Project" time only. The days that I would not work, after school was fire project time until I slept. When I did work, I took my fire project things to my job and worked on it there. I did not have a partner, but for the people that did, I notice that it might have been a little easier for them because since they were all working on the same topic, they could share sources and ideas because they would all be related. My goal was to finish the fire project and feel at the end that I tried my best on it. My goal was somewhat reached, but not 100% all the way. he stretch for me was the amount of research that needed to be done. We needed a source for almost everything which sounds easy but is difficult but it does help you out throughout your whole project and to support all your claims. As long as my audience leaves with the mindset that human trafficking for sex exploitation exists in Chicago I'd be happy. Many people think that because we are a "basic" city that nothing like that can ever happen here. I would give myself a C. I feel that in some parts I tried my best, but in other parts I just half-assed it. feel like I have mastered organizational skills. How to put such a big document together now became easier. I still need to work on being a procrastinator because it really messes you up at the end. You think that you can do everything a day before but you really do have to be committed and stick to all the deadlines. Am most proud of my philosophy because my philosophy is where I explain what Social Justice is to me. I love to express myself which is something that Fire Project allowed me to do by picking my own topic and making my own argument. Finding sources I found difficult. There would be good and bad sources or some sources that were unreliable. I wish that from the beginning I would have had my topic set and have stuck to it because I could have done way better and not wasted any time I do not wish for anything to change in my project. I learned a lot of new things that I never knew believe that my central question question was answered pretty well. My central question did change a couple of times because it is difficult when you cannot find anything at the top. The ones from the Polaris Project website were the ones that helped the most because they had statistics mixed with hats would say to keep up with all the work and do not let things pile up on you. Follow each deadline, that way you do not have to be worried about. I would also say to make sure that you pick a topic that you know that you're passionate about because that is what you're whole project is based on.
